This book wasn't for me. I found it boring and depressing, but the writing was beautiful. So, it's like most classics. Edith Wharton is a good writer, the subject matter in this novella just leaves much to be desired when looking to read for entertainment. If you like other classics with romance in them you might like this, but I didn't care for it because the romance is between a woman and a married man. Ethan Frome should be ashamed of himself. Any sorrow I felt for him vanished when I saw that he had feelings for a woman other than his wife. To me, though the content was mild, this is nothing more than a smutty romance novel which happened to be published back in 1911. Ethan and Mattie were selfish fools.
